Hi,

Hello - and welcome to our prayer diary for April 2025.

There's been huge interest in the Netflix drama 'Adolescence' over the last few weeks and I'm sure many of you will have seen this four part TV series that tells the story of a 13 year old boy accused of murdering a girl in his school. As well as being a heart-breaking story as the family try to come to terms with what's happened, Adolescence asks deeper questions about masculinity, misogyny and a toxic online world of 'incel' hate that some teenage boys are being drawn into. For some this might be a shocking discovery, but for those working with young people, we are only too aware of how online influencers like Andrew Tate can lure young boys into a world of hate and grievances towards women. As Christians, and youth workers, we want to offer young people a different vision for masculinity that is based on respect for women and a belief in our shared equality. These are important conversations to be had with young people - and hopefully ones that youth groups up and down the country are having right now. Youthscape is helping too - we've produced a podcast episode on Adolescence on our popular weekly podcast 'Talking Youth Ministry' and we've got a special book written for young boys called 'The Man You're Made to Be' which explores a Christian idea of what it means to be a man. Do search out both on our website. And let's pray together for teenage boys growing up in this challenging world with so many toxic views readily available to them. Let's pray that together we can offer then a better more Biblical vision for what it means to be male.
