"Alumina has made a HUGE positive impact on me. If it was not for Alumina I would not have asked for help. I have been using my Alumina book to help me with explaining how I feel to people without having to repeat myself all the time."

"During Alumina I felt very supported and I felt like people understood me. Alumina helped me realise that other people feel the same way as I do and its nothing to be ashamed of. Whilst doing the course I began to understand where my self harm stemmed from and what triggered my urges to self harm. For the first time in a long time I felt listened to and accepted."

"Alumina changed my life, it took me 6 weeks to realise how my story began and now I am not ashamed to tell people my story because Alumina gave me the confidence to do this."

A small group and mentoring course for young people who are self-harming or at risk of doing so.
“Teenagers are experiencing a gathering crisis in their mental health linked to conflict with friends, fears about their body image and pressures created by school work and social media.” (Simon Stevens, Chief Executive of NHS England). As many as a fifth (22%) of teenage girls self-harm, whilst rates in boys are 9%. How can we help young people deal with this issue?
Alumina is a ground-breaking course developed by a team of professionals and youth workers at SelfharmUK. Its aim is to help young people understand why they are harming and find better ways of coping with what are often overwhelming emotions. More than 1,000 teenagers take part in the online version of the course every year.
The Alumina Workbook is designed for youth workers and professionals to run a small group or one-to-one mentoring programme in their own setting that follows the same material as the online course. The Workbook contains information about self-harm, six weekly themes with a wide variety of activities, and space to complete a 30 day diary. It is a chance for young people to focus on their recovery journey.
The accompanying Leader's Guide contains everything you’ll need to setup the group, including information and tips on forming a group, safeguarding information, weekly content and evaluation tools.
Whether you're looking for a book to work through to understand why you self-harm or something to use in your mentoring sessions, the Alumina workbook is a fantastic resource.
