Frequently Asked Questions
General
Who is Youthscape Essentials for?
Youthscape Essentials is designed for volunteer youth leaders, first time youth workers and those needing a refresher of the foundations in youth ministry. It covers a wide range of topics and skills, but we find that people also appreciate the reflections and how they help to form faith development.
Is the course accredited?
The course is not accredited. In order for hosts to facilitate the course in a way which suits their context, the material and guides are versatile, and the method of delivery varies too. We have chosen to focus on the task of training volunteer youth leaders and have committed to evolve the course materials regularly, in response to emerging trends. We value being able to provide accessible, cost-effective training and updated materials.
Is the Youthscape Essentials Handbook essential?
Yes – in the Youthscape Essentials Handbook you will find activities and reflections needed for the course. You can purchase one here or course leaders can provide a digital copy, downloaded from the online portal. The Youthscape Essentials Handbook also includes additional resources, poems to encourage reflection and a 'journey journal' to help identify key learning.

How quickly can we begin to host a course in our own area?
Once you’ve bought a licence you’ll be able to deliver the course almost straight away. You just need to attend an 'All You Need To Know' hosting workshop to get set up on the YSE Portal and access all course materials and more.
How do I access the YSE Portal?
Once you have a licence you can access the Portal via the navigation bar or by visiting youthscape.co.uk/yse/portal
I’m not from the UK, can I still get a licence?
Yes. We have licence holders based in various countries! We just ask that people attend an 'All You Need to Know' hosting workshop before hosting a course themselves. Hosting workshops take place at various times and we can try to organise one which suits you.
Do I need to take the course myself before hosting it?
No. Although some people feel more confident attending a session or course. The Leader's Guide and Hosting Workshop provides all the information needed to host a course.
What if a participant can’t attend every session?
That’s okay, we understand that life is busy but we would encourage people to commit to at least 80% of the course. If hosting an online course, you can record the session to share with your participants.
