Peacemakers + Disruptors

The Feast and Youthscape have collaborated to create this fun scenario-based card game to help young people practice healthy conversations with those they may disagree with.

As the world begins to feel more and more divided, what does it look like to live well with difference? How can we respond to statements that we disagree strongly on whilst also respecting the other person?

It is often the case that young people with opposing worldviews end up in conflict. Attempts to prove one view as right can lead to hurt, distrust and a lack of understanding and respect for different opinions or experiences.

This resource is designed as a first step to breaking that cycle. By using a game format, we want to help young people stop and think about their responses when faced with certain statements or scenarios. We want to equip young people to have healthy dialogue about difficult topics that encourages harmony, even when there are differing beliefs, and develops resilience in the face of extreme views. We want to empower youth leaders to create space for that kind of open dialogue and this game allows for deeper conversation and relationship building amongst the young people involved.

Throughout the game, the players are either aiming to respond helpfully to the scenario presented or unhelpfully. This creates opportunities to discuss what works or doesn’t work when replying to someone with different views from ourselves.

What’s in the box?

Statement Cards: Present scenarios that might spark disagreement.
Response Cards: Players choose from these to react to the statements.
Peacemaker and Disrupter Cards: Secret roles guiding players to place down response cards that would with be helpful (Peacemaker) or unhelpful (Disrupter) to the scenario presented.
Guideline for Dialogue Cards: The Feast’s guidelines for dialogue provide a framework for honest and respectful conversations to happen. Use these cards to deepen conversation and encourage young people to further reflect on how their responses may have been received in the scenarios being discussed.

Aimed at young people aged 14-18, this game will provide a useful discussion starter to the bigger topic of unity and respect.

Who are The Feast?

The Feast are a youth work charity who bring together young people of different faiths and backgrounds through healthy dialogue. The goal is to make meaningful friendships, build confidence in identity, resilience in faith, and the ability to live well with difference.
